Glenn Price to be awarded the South Carolina Order Glenn Price to be awarded the South Carolina Order of the Palmetto (repost from our site- see our link in bio for the original!) The longtime director of Lugoff-Elgin, former president of the SCBDA, and SCBDA & SCMEA Hall of Fame member will be awarded SC’s highest civilian honor on July 23rd. Glenn C. Price first became the director of Lugoff-Elgin HS in 1975 and quickly found success with the program, earning multiple Outstanding Performance Awards and Lugoff-Elgin’s first AA marching state title in 1981. From 1997-1999, Price served as the president of the SCBDA, where he oversaw the modernization of the organization with a new logo, the tagline “Music is Instrumental to Success,” and the creation of bandlink.org. He was inducted into the SCBDA Hall of Fame in 2005 and the SCMEA Hall of Fame in 2017. Mr. Price stepped down as the director of Lugoff-Elgin this past school year, having touched the lives of endless band members from within the walls of his school and across our state. To say the impact he has had is immeasurable is an understatement, and we couldn’t think of a more deserving individual to receive South Carolina’s highest honor. On governor.sc.gov, the Order of the Palmetto is described as: “The State of South Carolina’s highest civilian honor presented in recognition of a lifetime of extraordinary achievement, service and contributions on a national or statewide scale. An individual must be nominated for the Order of the Palmetto. This once in a lifetime award may only be presented to natives or residents of the State of South Carolina.“ From #TeamSC, congratulations to Mr. Price!
