The home of the undefeated Winthrop University Football team will host over 250 bands at the 2023 Bands Of World Grand Internationals
Band of World, the international branch of Band of America, has announced that 2023’s Bands Of World Grand Internationals Championships will be held at the Winthrop University Football Stadium. The event, which last year held it’s sold-out event at the Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janerio, is considered the “world championships” of high school band, and is host to over 250 bands from around the world.
The Winthrop University Football Stadium is the home of the Winthrop University Football team, which to this day is still undefeated. Excited of the prospect of hosting this historic event, Winthrop assistant band director Doug Presley remarked “Wait, what? We don’t have a football stadium.”
The Bands of World Super Grand Internationals is a week long event, divided into prelims, quarter finals, semi finals, and finally the finals event at the end of Saturday. All bands will compete in Prelims, with only 100 advancing into quarter finals, where the event then runs similarly to the Bands of America Grand Nationals. Prelims runs from Monday-Wednesday, with the latter part of Wednesday devoted to the 5 hour long Prelims Awards Experience.
SCBandChat.org is excited for this event to come to South Carolina, and we can’t wait until next April Fools Day when we can make another nonsensical article like this!
