As the second week of competition approach, we take a look back at last week in out Competition Recap.
Mustang Classic
The Mustang Classic was held at Midland Valley High School which saw 19 bands competing head to head for the first time this season. Ware Shoals swept the Orange Division while North Augusta edged out Ninety-Six by 0.85 tenths to win the Blue Division and overall grand champions. Bluffton High took 1A while South Aiken won class 3A over Aiken High by 1.6 points.
White Knoll Silver Showcase
White Knoll High School hosted the White Knoll Silver Showcase with 14 participating bands. Batesburg-Leesville swept class 1A winning all captions, and Pelion took 2A, winning all captions except percussion.
Last years 3A Upperstate Champions D.W. Daniel edged out the reigning 3A State Champions Chapin by 0.7 points. In this close battle, Chapin took Music over Daniel by 1.5 points, however Daniel won Visual Performance and Overall Effect, securing their victory. Chapin took the Guard caption by a full 5 points while Daniel won the Percussion caption by 2.5 points.
Class 4A saw some interesting results, with Dutch Fork winning their class, Visual Performance, and Overall Effect. Colleton County won Music over Dutch Fork by 0.45 tenths of a point and also won the Guard Caption. Lugoff-Elgin was 3rd in the class and took the Percussion caption by 2 points.
River Bluff swept class 5A and were grand champions of the day, receiving the only score above 80 with an 82.675. Dutch Fork was 2nd Overall with Colleton County right on their heels in 3rd.
Olde English Festival of Bands
Olde English, held by the Northwestern and Rock Hill High band programs, had a prelims and finals setup with 14 participating bands. In Prelims, North Central won Class A with Lewisville and Andrew Jackson in 2nd and 3rd respectively. Marvin Ridge came out swinging and won Class AA with Powdersville close behind in 2nd.
In Class AAA, Easley edged out South Pointe by 1.075 points, and Nation Ford posted the only score above 80 against 2nd place Ardrey Kell who scored a 79.65.
Finals saw all class champions plus the next four highest scores seated by top and bottom scores. Ridge View was the first group out of finals with York Prep being the next group up behind them by score.
In finals, Nation Ford swept the competition with a score of 85.175. Ardrey Kell, 2nd overall, broke the 80 mark with a score of 80.850, 1.45 points ahead of 3rd place Easley. Easley managed to put about 4 points between themselves and 5th place South Pointe with Marvin Ridge splitting the two groups by placing 4th. Powdersville, Indian Land, and North Central rounded up 6th, 7th, and 8th places respectively.
Boiling Springs Festival of Bands

Boiling Springs HS hosed the the largest competition of the weekend, with 25 bands competing in 7 classes. Mauldin eared the highest score of the day with an 83.5874 in Class VII, followd by Dorman. The next three spots, Spartanburg (VI), Laurens District 55 (V), and Wren (IV), all won their respective classes. Other class winners include West-Oak in Class II and Mid-Carolina in III and Southside in I.
