The competition heats up on DCI’s busiest weekend yet.
New Venue in Atlanta offers a read on World Class Programs
By Shane Lenard
Drum Corps International’s 24 World Class corps’s enjoyed a brand new venue this past Saturday for the DCI Southeastern Championship regional: The Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. Previously held at the Georgia Dome (prior to 2016) and McEachern HS (2017), The Southeastern Championship regional is held two weeks prior to the conclusion of the season and gives the audience a great read on the World class programs as they continue to refine their products.
Notable placement standing changes include Spirit of Atlanta overtaking the Academy for 13th, Blue Stars advancing beyond the Blue Knights for 8th, and Boston Crusaders edging out the Cavaliers for a spot in the top five. Santa Clara Vanguard was the evening’s champion receiving a score of 93.675.
Crown hosts another successful NightBEAT
Carolina Crown hosted yet another successful NightBEAT at Wake Forest University. Placements stayed the same as Atlanta the night before; however, most corps’s saw their scores drop slightly. The largest gain was seen by the Boston Crusaders, who managed to break 90 for the first time this season.
Vanguard Cadets continue to dominate Open Class
Vanguard Cadets continued to dominate the Open Class field at Drum Corps Mid-America in Oskaloosa, Iowa, maintaining a point lead over Blue Devils B, who saw a massive gain of 3.550 points. Spartans were victorious at the Legends Drum Corps Invitational, and Legends overtook Gold at their home show.
